I Would Like to Thank the Anipal Academy

Today I received a Star from the Anipal Academy Awards for my avatar of Angel Petie.

I did not expect this award, so my acceptance speech is not written with much thought, but it comes from my heart.

Thank you for this award. Although I never expected any kind of reward for making an avatar for the wonderpurr and beloved Petie The Cat, or any other Anipal who has gone Over The Rainbow Bridge, or needs a cute avi for a pawty. I do them because I love my pals and want everyone to have fun.

Petie was an inspiration to me, to be the best Anipal furend I can be to all of those who want me as a furend. It is in his honor that I accept my award and will display it proudly on my blog. Much hugs to the Academy for voting for me, and to my dear furend, Phi @3phibotticelli who tweaked my ears and made sure I got on line just as my award was announced.

Love you all!  Herman

A Message from the Bridge

I would know your voice
if I slept a thousand years...
the sound of it would wrestle down
the greatest of my fears.

I would know your voice
over waterfalls of pain
I would travel days on end
to see you once again.

But I have crossed
and you are left
to wait for that bright day
When I see you coming home...
we'll run, we'll sit...we'll play.

It will seem like seconds passed
since last you hugged me tight
Sleep sweet, my master
I will wait.
Sleep sweet in Rainbow's light.

Angel Jinny

Yesterday, our beloved Jinny @JinJinDoggy, went unexpectedly Over The Rainbow Bridge, leaving those of us who loved her truly heartbroken. Angel Petie @Petiethecat created #WhatJinnyMeansToMe so we could pay our respects to Jinny. Please add your feelings about Jinny in the comments section.

Herman @TattleCat: I could always count on Jinny to make me smile, or laugh. She was warm, welcomng, and made me the best turkey bacon noms at #Nipclub. I loved making avi's for her, her chocolate brown eyes and floppy salt 'n pepper ears gave her such a sweet expression. She celebrated her 16th birthday on March 16th. Some say when you turn the age of your birth date, that's supposed to be your lucky year. Well...maybe it is for our Jinny. That she is now Over The Rainbow Bridge, romping through tall lush grass, free of pain, feeling like a new puppy filled with joy, that's probably the best of what we all can look forward to. I love you, Angel Jinny.

Meet Bode @4catsstrapski

What can I say about my pal Bode except...I loves dis guy to pieces! He was my mechanic during the Great Spring Street Race. And he's one of the nicest furends I've made here on Twitter. Please welcome Bode.

How old were you when you moved in with your family? Were you a rescue?

I was five years old when I entered mom's home and heart. I was a cat that someone had let go and I lived in the wild for a while.

What inspired your meowmy to name you?

Mom had a hard time naming me. But watching the 2002 Olympics she saw bad boy of skiing Bode Miller and that was my name, bode. I have lived up to the bad boy part.

How would you describe your purrrsonality?

I'm standoffish. I have to initiate the petting. I'm not a lap cat much to mom's sorrow. Don't like to be held. Only lived with Smokie and he was Alpha cat. Now I rule the roost. I also am a talker when I want something. And I do tell mom when there is something special in the litte box to be cleaned right now.

Do you have any health issues?

Some but they are related to getting older.   I'm going to be 15 this year so that's to be expected.

Wow! 15! That's great pal! Do you like to be brushed, have your nails trimmed?

I love to be brushed, combed and petted if I ask for it. Nails I do myself. Had one nail clipped. Never again.

What is your relationship like with your veterinarian?

I love my veterinarian, Dr. Anderson. I may complain to and from him but 'm always a perfect gentleman once there.

New Mothers

My fenced yard has been chosen by a new mother mockingbird to teach her babies how to survive. That she has chosen a yard where many cats live astounds me.

The other day the baby sat on the fence waiting for direction from his mom. It was near twilight. Clearly the baby bird knew it was supposed to do something but mom wasn't nearby. The reason: Peaches was perched at the far end of the same fence and had noticed him.

We watched with astonishment as Peaches slowly walked the top of the fence toward the baby. He didn't fly off to safety, rather sat obediently where his mom had left him. The closer Peaches got the more we feared for the baby mockingbird.

When it became apparent the baby was going to become a trophy kill, Peaches was plucked off the fence and hustled indoors. That's when the mother mockingbird returned.

This morning the young mother has two babies learning to survive in our yard. They hop along the fence. They fly to the neighbors roof then back to land on a fragile bush not designed to hold the weight of a bird. When the bush limb bounces, the fledgling flaps it's wings to keep from falling. Nearby, Mom watches with patience. She has a big job ahead of her.

Her Mother's Day won't be rewarded with flowers or candy or jewelry or a nice card. No. Her reward will be in the survival of her babies. Their rapid maturity to understand survival.

Her reward will be raising her babies to survive so that they too will live to raise their own babies.

Happy Mother's Day!

Meet Mario...da Cat!

My pal @MarioDaCat is head barktender at #Nipclub, on duty around 8p.m. His Nipclub bio reads: Mario is a traditional barktender with a good ear, a big heart, and if the music is jumpin' you might catch him shaking his tail behind the bar, or even on the bar. He's sure to please!!

Well, he's also a really good furend and I have enjoyed knowing him. I sat down wif Mario after his shift at #NipClub had ended. Over bacon beers and nip cheese snacks, we talked about his life.

How old were you when you moved in with your family? Were you a rescue?

M & D came to the Humane Society in our city looking for another kitty to love as their beloved Misty had to be put to sleep due to kidney failure. They had just been on a cruise to Italy with their daughter & husband and couldn’t stand the quiet house with no furbaby in it. The shelter thought I was about 2 at the time.

What breed of cat are you?

I am a domestic shorthair – or as mom says – a barn kitty (even tho I’ve never been in a barn in my life – silly oomans.)

Black Mold

It makes sense now. We lost Nicholas in February to some mysterious respiratory infection that was thought to have been a tumor. Mom haz been suffering with memory loss, constant joint aches, headaches and unusual crabbiness. Lots of sneezing going on in this house. Running noses, both hooman and animal. Now, it makes sense.

Mom had Global Central Air Services out to the house today. Why? Because Cookie now haz what Nicholas had. Runny nose, thick discharge, lethargy. And its frightened Mom into worrying it could be more. Like mold. And it is.

Global showed Mom the air handlers. We have two. Both are poisoned with black mold. Global returns tomorrow to clean, using a tea tree oil solution that is guarantee to kill the nasty mold and keep it gone for two years. Meanwhile, we are wondering if we can reverse the signs of poisoning that we all have suffered. Especially Cookie, who at 14 is taking it pretty hard.

This explains why Mom lost all desire to write on her blogs, to write her novels. Why each day has been hard to get through because all she wants to do is sleep. This is unusual for her because Mom isn't the type to watch tv during the day or do anything but write. But for the past few months all of her energy has left and in its place has been a shell of the purrson she used to be. So we are very hopeful that once the mean ol nasty black mold is gone for good, we all can enjoy life again.

That Nicholas had to sacrifice his life to save the rest of ours is something none of us will ever forget. Mom is determined to make Nick the poster child of black mold awareness. So when you see #BBM on my tweets at @TattleCat and on Mom's @KimberleyKoz and @KeptbyCats you will know it means #BewareBlackMold.

For more information on signs of mold poisoning go to  http://moldsymptoms.org/Home_Page.html
